Church of England Ordinands
ERMC provides non-residential training for ordinands of the dioceses of Chelmsford, Ely, Europe, Norwich, Peterborough, St Albans and St Edmundsbury & Ipswich. Occasionally we also accept ordinands from other dioceses.
We run open evenings once a term at our Cambridge, St Albans and Norwich teaching centres, to experience the teaching and community life there. We also hold open days, the next will be in March 2024 at High Leigh Conference Centre, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. Open Days are a useful way to find out more about ERMC, meet the team and sit in on some teaching.
How to apply:
Complete the application form and send it to admissions@ermc.cam.ac.uk
We will then arrange for you to have an informal interview with a member of staff to discuss the training we can offer you, and/or arrange for you to attend an open day / open evening where possible.
After interview we will send you an offer letter, this will be ‘conditional’ if you have not yet completed Stage 2 and received your recommendation to train from your Diocesan Bishop.
We are always happy to meet with you before your Stage 1 Carousel Conversations or Stage 2 Discernment Panel, however please discuss with your Diocesan Director of Ordinands (DDO) when it is appropriate for you to begin the process.
Please note: There will be an induction session in late June or early July – a couple of dates will be available in our centres and an online version can be arranged.
Our year begins with Summer School which takes place in August with new students attending Sunday to Saturday. Summer School normally runs the week leading up to the English Bank Holiday. In summer 2025 Summer School begins on the Bank Holiday Weekend.
Church of England Readers and Licensed Lay Ministers (LLM)
ERMC trains Readers and Licensed Lay Ministers in partnership with the Ely, Europe, Norwich and St Albans Reader/LLM Training Courses. If you are interested in training for this ministry, you need to see your Diocesan Warden of Readers.
Once a candidate is selected to train for Reader / LLM ministry your diocese will send you an ERMC application form which needs to be returned to admissions@ermc.cam.ac.uk as soon as possible.
Please note: There will be an induction session in late June or early July – a couple of dates will be available in our centres and an online version can be arranged.
Norwich LLM students normally attend our Summer School in their first year. Summer School normally runs the week leading up to the English Bank Holiday. In summer 2025 Summer School begins on the Bank Holiday Weekend.
