ERMC in new Relationship with Durham University

ERMC in new Relationship with Durham University

ERMC’s application to the Church of England and Durham University to become a Theological Education Institution in its own right has been approved. This means that we relate to Durham University directly and not through the Cambridge Theological Federation. We will remain part of the Cambridge Theological Federation as associate institution and our students will retain access to the Federation’s libraries, facilities and common life.

The new arrangements will give ERMC greater flexibility to respond to the needs of our partner dioceses and the wider Church. The Federation and ERMC agreed that the previous arrangement, under which ERMC related to Durham through the Federation, were not practical for either party and so it was decided to separate our academic accreditation arrangements from the Federation whilst staying within the Federation for all other purposes. The Church of England’s Ministry Council approved our application earlier this year and Durham’s Education Committee agreed last week.

This is an important step of ERMC as we take full ownership of our programmes and run our own academic administration.
