Useful Links
"Of making links there is no end, and much surfing is a weariness to the flesh." [Source]
The links were put together by Holger Szesnat. They are meant to function as a springboard for further research.
Useful links categories:
- Bible versions
- Old Testament / Hebrew Bible
- New Testament
- Biblical Studies (general)
- Bible in Greek / Hebrew / other language tools
- Other relevant sites (Biblical Studies)
- Lectionary-related resources; preaching; etc.
- Music, prayers, liturgy, worship, etc.
- History of Christianity
- Doctrine / Systematic Theology / Ethics
- Practical and Pastoral Theology
- Philosophy and Religious Studies
- Online Journals: Theology
- Daily Prayer
Last but not least, our sister Course, the West of England Ministerial Training Course (WEMTC), used to offer a well organised, detailed collection of links, which is now defunct. However, Elizabeth Harper, who wrote those pages, put them up again on her own website, which I recommend for your perusal: old WEMTC resource pages.
Link of the month (discontinued)
January 2008
The book Exciting Holiness, which offers a wealth of liturgical resources, is now in print in its third edition (Canterbury Press, ISBN 1853118060, RRP £30). However, the first edition (1997), is available online free of charge at this place: www.excitingholiness.org/first-edition.
Previous 'links of the month':
- The Anglican Liturgical Library offers links to online texts on Anglican liturgies, both historical and contemporary. (October / November 2007)
- Internet Medieval Sourcebook: a great resource for the study of medieval history, up to and including the Reformation. (August / September 2007)
- WCC Prayer Cycle: The World Council of Churches has been considerably under-represented in the UK, which is rather sad. One way of addressing a little bit is to explore their website, starting with their weekly prayer cycle, which offers short, detailed, relevant information about what to pray for in different parts of the world. In the course of the year, the whole globe is 'covered' that way. (July 2007)
- The Psalters are radical, eclectic christian 'nomadic community' who travel and make music. Their website offers lyrics, some MP3s, and even a couple of videos (including a nice one of a live performance of a great rendition of the Lord's Prayer). See also their myspace page: www.myspace.com/psalters. (May/June 2007)
- Irish Jesuits have put together a thoughtful website with short meditations and prayers for every day at www.sacredspace.ie. Well worth exploring - perhaps it will help as part of your daily personal prayer. (March/April 2007)
- Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society: the archive of this journal is now freely available: http://www.etsjets.org/jets/journal/jets.html. Regardless of whether you agree with the doctrinal line taken by this journal, there is a lot of useful material here. (January/February 2007)
- Christian Classics Ethereal Library: www.ccel.org (Dec 2005/Jan 2006)
- Oremus: www.oremus.org (February 2006)
- James Kiefer's Christian Biographies (http://elvis.rowan.edu/~kilroy/JEK/home.html) (March 2006)
- NT Gateway (www.ntgateway.com): an excellent starting point for research relating to the New Testament (April 2006)
- Wabash Center Internet Resource Guide: based in Indiana, USA, this institute aims to further theological learning. Their internet resource guide (a meta-site, in technical parlance) is a good starting point for the whole area of theology and the internet. (May-June 2006)
- Take Our Moments and Our Days: An Anabaptist Prayer Book (http://www.ambs.edu/news-and-publications/prayerbook/content): an excellent prayer book, freely available in the form of PDF files. (July - August 2006)
